Rawesome!

Warning: This particular column could severely change your life. Reading the kind of information herein has been known to cause dramatic changes in a person's health, attitude and lifestyle.

A year and a half ago, Michael Johnson won gold medals at the Olympics, and when he did I began writing these columns. But, I also began doing something else - and that something else has totally and completely improved my life. I began eating an extremely different and unusual way.

I gave up my old way of eating (meat on occasion, ice cream and milk shakes as often as possible, pastries and coffee, Taco Bell and Burger King- you get the picture), and I began eating a diet of mostly raw fruits and vegetables.

To be specific, I gave up red meat, chicken, fish, milk, cheese, ice cream, candy, sugar, soda pop, coffee, canned foods, boxed foods and junk foods. And I shifted to oranges, bananas, avocados, blue berries, peaches, watermelons, mangos, coconuts, dates, honey, raw almonds, raw cashews, raw pistachios, and salads. In a word, I went Raw; that means primarily only uncooked fruits and vegetables - morning, afternoon, and night. Fruit shakes galore. Lucille Ball probably would have called my new way of eating "FruitaNutaVeggamin."

And man-o-man am I reaping the benefits. I stopped getting my annual winter round of five to six colds and flus. I stopped getting sleepy after meals. I increased my energy. And best of all, I virtually removed myself from all risk categories for heart attacks, strokes and cancers.

So why, after not mentioning it in these columns for a year and a half, did I finally decide to tell you about this incredible way of eating? Because after a year and a half of positive results, I now have no doubts about recommending this oh-so-different and weird sounding way of life.

My friends eat healthy also - they're the ones who turned me onto eating great. Deanna was the first raw-foodist I met. When she changed to a raw-food diet, three years ago, Deanna lost 40 lbs., cured herself of severe and constant migraine headaches, and also stopped getting lots of colds and flus. (Upon first meeting Deanna and learning about her wacky way of eating, I told her I'd never eat her way. Then I stuck to my word for a good nuther month). Another raw-foodist friend is Rick Lambert. Rick's a raw-food God because he hasn't eaten ANYTHING cooked for over twenty years. Over two decades of ONLY uncooked fruits and vegetables - and he's the healthiest seventy year old I've ever met.

Deanna's father also changed to a raw-food diet; he lost 80 lbs., got off his medications for high blood pressure and diabetes, plus he rid his body of the pre-cancerous symptoms he had in his throat. Deanna's mother changed also, but not until she was diagnosed last year with breast cancer. Right away she went a 48 day orange juice fast, followed by a three day water fast. And since then she's only eaten raw fruits and veggies. She lost 40 lbs., and her breast cancer went into remission.

Which brings me to this column's recommendation. Learn more about the rawesomely powerful effects food can have on your body. Eat healthier. Eat to live, don't live to eat. To quote a San Francisco billboard, "Take good care of your body. You'll live in it your entire live. You're the landlord."

Until next week, be
"WAIT A MINUTE!! Where do you get your protein??

What about calcium for your bones??

How many carbohydrates do you need?

Aren't avocado's fattening?

Why eliminate milk?

Isn't this a very dangerous way of eating?!?"

Ah yes - questions. This way of eating does raise a lot of great questions. Any questions you have about the way of eating that I've adopted are answered in an incredible new book by Roe Gallo titled, Perfect Body. Roe has been eating raw for twenty some years also, and she has some of the most amazing raw-food stories of all. She's the one who turned Deanna on to eating raw. She's the one who guided Deanna's parents through their transition to a raw food way of life. She's helped people with Leukemia. Roe Gallo has serious knowledge of how food effects your body.]

Until next week, be great - and be good to your body.
